somewhat cohesive thoughts
It's been too long since I wrote here. Life's been so hectic that I really haven't sat down with any really cohesive thoughts worth writing down. But this last weekend I went to the concert of one of my favorite bands and it got me to thinking.
Recently a friend was using my computer and commented on how much of my music was Christian. I'll be the first to admit that I do have a lot. Having spent time as a worship leader only increased that fact. I'm bringing this up because it is at the root of my thought process here. I appreciate songs proclaiming God's greatness. The problem is that nowadays "Christian" music isn't anything but that. I can only listen to so many albums of the very same songs that sound the same.
While I am frustrated with "Christian" music of the CCM genre, I'm really fascinated by musicians of other genres with faith backgrounds. As I said, I don't have an issue with songs praising God. But this other music deals with issues of everyday life. It's interesting to hear how faith shapes the ways in which the issues are approached. It's real. It's good music. And it doesn't sound the same.
